summer camp

The annual week at summer camp is vital to the success of the troop’s year round program. We expect all Scouts to make every possible effort to attend summer camp. Be sure to put summer camp on your family calendar now so your son won’t miss out on the most important and exciting week of the year.

Summer camp is one of the best places to really understand the goals of scouting in an atmosphere where it is about scouting 24-7.  Scouts tend to advance in rank at camp and earn merit badges needed to advance to Eagle.  We have found that boys who go to summer camp their first year stay in scouting .

Troop 324 alternates between several wonderful facilities than are available to us and creates an exciting and diverse program for the boys. These camps’ staff, program, and facilities (including a full aquatics program) have met our scouts’ individual needs in an outstanding manner over the years.

Troop 324 supports 2 summer camps per year.

We support a "closer to home" summer camp which is popular with newer scouts so they don't feel so far away on their first week camping ever.  This is also popular with some of our older scouts as a "second" summer camp to blast out more merit badges.  Examples of the closer to home camps are Mataguay, Fiesta Island and Lost Valley.

The second summer camp is generally further away and also provides more opportunities for High Adventure experiences such as ocean canoeing, trekking, COPE, horseback treks, etc.  Some notable away camps we've attended are Emerald Bay, Chawanakee, and Whitsett.
